American Alloy Foundry, Inc. in Baltimore,  MD
Owner: Bob Eagen

American Alloy Foundry is one of Baltimore's oldest working foundries. The original location was on Colvin Street. Established in 1935 by brothers Harry H. Gunther and Charles H. Gunther, they learned the trade from their father who was the foreman of Old Central Foundry in Dundalk. They were forced to relocate in 1942 due to the increase in business during World War II and the need for more manufacturing space. They relocated to their present building on South Eden Street located between Fells Point and the Inner Harbor.

The Foundry was eventually passed down to Harry's son-in-law, Hugh A. Eagan, who ran the foundry for over 50 years. His son, Bob, has been working in the foundry for the last 35 years and has been running it for the past 6 years. This foundry has been family owned and operated for four generation.

Offering work in brass, bronze and aluminum castings, American Alloy is well diversified. They sand-cast anything from commercial and industrial machine parts to automobile parts and antique replications. They've done work for the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History and Museum of American History buildings. They've also been noted for having contributed heavily to the reconstruction of the U.S.S. Constellation and the Clara Barton House. American Alloy Foundry has also cast the eagles that are located on the light poles of the Taft Bridge, the first million-dollar bridge built in Washington, DC.

They are currently excited about helping to recreate the cast engine block for the replication of the Wright brother's first airplane. On December l7th of this year, the replicated model plan will be flown, celebrating the Centennial of Flight in America. American Alloy takes great pride in their quality products no matter what the job. Their hands-on work ethic and caring attitude proves why they have been in business since 1935.
