Owner:
Barbara and Jim Lessig
Barbara and Jim Lessig have been in the antiques business
since 1965, starting in Boston, then in Milwaukee, and finally
here in Maryland since 1969. Barbara learned her specialty
- glass -- in Milwaukee, the Midwest, of course, and a mecca
for early American pattern glass. The Lessig's would visit
a farming couple in Colgate, Wisconsin, who had a huge Dutch
barn filled with almost every pattern of glass, thousands
of pieces representing more than 600 patterns of the 1800s.
Barbara expanded her antique collecting and selling interests
over the years, and now collects and sells over the full
range of collectible glass, from ancient to art glass of
contemporary studio artists. She is a certified appraiser
of personal property with the international Society of Appraisers.
She has held chapter officer and board of director positions
with ISA and the National American Glass Club. The Lessig's
own and operate a shop in Brookeville, Maryland, and are
active in exhibiting at antique shows in the mid-Atlantic
and northeastern states. Barbara writes articles for collector
newsletters and magazine, and has been a speaker for local
and national collecting organizations on antiques and appraising.
Jim, retired from a career of management and consulting
in information systems for commercial and government organizations,
"carries the bags" for Barbara.
Jim is a musician specializing in double reed woodwind
instruments (oboe, English horn, and bassoon), and trains
paint horses, both lifelong hobby pursuits. Currently treasurer
of ADAM, he is happy to be working with such dedicated and
congenial people.
