Wood Worm Question: Wood Worm in Books?

Hi,
I would like to know if wood worm can live in books. If so what would the
treatment be?
Thanks for your time,
Rebecca H.

Hi Rebecca,
No-wood worms prefer wood. However, there are a whole class of critters that enjoy books without ever reading any. Silverfish are most damaging to fragile papers, and are attracted by the glue used in the binding. Moth balls can be very effective in the use of keeping them away. I would recommend that you take the most damaged book you have to your local museum and see if they can help to identify what is doing the chewing. I don't know of any chemical available for treatment as these may be more harsh and cause more problems than the chewer.
I doubt this has helped very much, but books are a delicate situation and should be dealt with on a one by one approach.
